October 14, 1976 - Seoul, South Korea:
The Seoul UFO Incident
On the evening of October 14, 1976, mysterious lights appeared over Seoul, South Korea, triggering a dramatic military response that left one civilian dead and 31 injured.
Around 6:00 p.m., witnesses reportedly observed multiple glowing objects moving in formation across the sky near the Blue House, the official residence of President Park Chung-hee. Fearing an intrusion by North Korean aircraft, South Korean forces opened fire with anti-aircraft guns, sending hundreds of rounds into the sky above the densely populated capital.
The barrage caused widespread panic as falling ammunition and fragments struck civilian neighborhoods. American diplomatic records confirm that South Korean forces fired more than 1,000 rounds at one aircraft, followed by approximately 700 rounds at a second suspected aircraft.

Authorities later attributed the incident to a Northwest Airlines Boeing 707 that had entered restricted airspace. The aircraft reportedly landed safely in Tokyo without damage. However, some witnesses insisted they had seen multiple luminous objects rather than a single commercial airplane.
Although the military confrontation and casualties are documented, questions remain about the reported lights and whether conventional aircraft explain every sighting. The incident remains one of South Korea's most unusual and controversial UFO-related events.
