June 30, 1983 – Indianapolis, Indiana, USA:

The Copley Woods Encounter

On June 30, 1983, residents around Copley Woods, a suburb of Indianapolis, Indiana, witnessed one of the area's most unusual UFO incidents. Hundreds of glowing, basketball-sized lights were reportedly seen moving through the neighborhood and surrounding wooded areas. After the lights disappeared, investigators documented a number of strange marks and physical traces left behind, adding to the mystery.

The incident attracted the attention of UFO researchers, particularly Budd Hopkins, who investigated several witnesses who claimed to have experienced missing time and possible alien abductions. The case became one of the inspirations for Hopkins' bestselling Intruders, in which he examined the accounts of individuals who believed extraterrestrials had abducted them.

Although skeptics questioned the extraordinary claims, the Copley Woods encounter remains a significant case in UFO history due to the large number of reported witnesses, the alleged physical evidence, and its influence on one of the most well-known books about alien abduction phenomena.
